Eddie Masaya

Featuring Eddie Masaya sculpting at Spirits in Stone galleries
Come and marvel at his work

We are ecstatic that Eddie Masaya, the living legacy of master sculptor Moses Masaya, will be joining us and sculpting the spirit from stone onsite at the galleries.

Eddie Masaya was born May 14, 1960 in Nyanga Manicaland, Zimbabwe. He and his wife Dorcas have four children: Tayera, born in 1990; Tadiwi, born in 1991; Jasper, born in 1995; and Tanya, born in 1998. Tayera and Tadiwi have already begun to sculpt.

Eddie started carving wood at a young age and liked art as a subject in school. He was very encouraged when he learned that his elder cousin, the late Moses Masaya, was a sculptor for a school magazine African Times in 1977. He began carving with master sculptor John Takawira in 1979, and joined his cousin in 1980. He also received guidance from two other Zimbabwe master sculptors, Joseph Ndandarika and Nicolas Mukomeranwa. Masaya's work has been exhibited world wide. He has received awards of merit and highly commended works from the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, and displays at the National Galley at annual exhibitions.

"When I started sculpting it was for the love of art, and art has lead me to so many avenues and also exposed me to most of the world. I want you to collect what you enjoy from not just my popularity but satisfy yourselves and enjoy what you have."
