"MASKS, MAGIC & MEANING"
Celebration of the exotic Masks of Africa.

The month of October celebrates the harvest and gives thanks to the ancestral spirits for their continued protection. We honor this tradition every year with our special collection and showing of African masks of the Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Congo, and Nigeria.

Wosene - New York Times!

Ethiopian painter, Wosene Kosrof, acknowledged by the New York Times last Friday, August 13th. “Is Wosene an African artist? An American artist? Modern? Postmodern? He is all of these. And however indrectly, his art is a reminder that African art may borrow elements of modern Western style, but in absolutely essential ways, Western modernist art originated in Africa. “Trying to be safe is a most unsafe thing”—Sarah Graham

Like all great art, that artist’s path has been paved with freedom from convention. It is the contrast in her jewelry—blackened steel juxtaposed with yellow and white gold, textured and polished finish—that is its most eye catching element, and it is the contrast in her jewelry that mirrors her life.

New Artistic Spirit joins our Galleries
Gene Pearson - "Masks of Still Spirits"

Gene Pearson's work has for many years been admired by artists and collectors. His art has an elemental beauty causing many of his followers to collect more than just one piece. The former Jamaica School of Art lecturer paints and sketches, but it is his signature Nubian masks and heads for which he has become known internationally.

Star sheds light on African 'Stonehenge'
By Richard Stenger - CNN Reporter

(CNN) -- Mysterious ruins in Zimbabwe, nearly brushed this week by the shadow of a total solar eclipse, once served as an astronomical observatory to track eclipses, solstices and an elusive exploding star, a South African scientist said.

The Great Enclosure in the archaeological site of Great Zimbabwe, a crumbling ring of stone walls and platforms about 250 meters in circumference, was thought to have been a palace complex for regional rulers some 800 years ago.
