Fanizani Akuda - Shona Sculptor
1st Generation Artist - A 54 year Artistic Legacy

Fanizani Akuda was born in 1932 in Zambia. His family came to Zimbabwe in 1949 where he was first introduced to sculpture when he was hired to dig stone for the sculptors at Tengenenge Sculpture Community.

He didn't believe people could carve stone when he first started digging at Tengenenge. He thought if he tried he would get hit in the eyes with chips of stone.
