At the Fowler Museum, continued

This exhibition is a first major attempt to present writing and graphic systems that originated in Africa, some more than 4000 years ago. With the Western focus on alphabets as the major basis of literacy, many ancient African graphic systems have been overlooked or neglected in cultural and art historical research. This collaborative exhibition, developed by the
National Museum of African Art's curator, Dr. Christine Mullen Kreamer, and the chief curator at the Fowler Museum, Dr. Mary Nooter Roberts, opened originally at the National Museum of African Art in Washington, DC, in May, 2007 through August, 2007.
