Amber - Fossilized Sun Rays
Evidence of amber use by ancient Central and South European cultures dates from the 13th millennium B.C. Amber was found in the form of magical amulets, as well as pendants and beads that demonstrate a decorative use that has survived through modern times. But it wasn't until the 17th century that amber became popular among distinguished artisans and architects. Combined with wood, gold or silver, amber was transformed in intricate works of art and jewelry symbolizing wealth and status.
Although amber looks like a stone and is used to make beautiful pieces of jewelry, it is a fossilized tree resin from ancient forests - and it can be as ancient as 50 to 90 million years old. One of the most fascinating properties of amber is its colors. There are between 250 to 300 colors and shades of amber which makes it a great raw material. The inclusions found in amber are another factor that contributes to its intriguing beauty. Translucent air bubbles and beautifully preserved plants and insects can be seen in a variety of types of amber. They were captured during the process where the exudation from the trees was still fluid.
You are cordially invited to join us for an amber special event at our Santa Barbara gallery. Come see a variety of amber types, from raw to polished and learn about its mysteries and charm. See gorgeous contemporary designs in silver and leather presented by Alexandra, a native of Poland, where most amber comes from today.

Wosene Worke Kosrof at Claremont Resort & Spa
Inspired by the sounds of Coltrane, Monk and Billie Holiday, this new evocative series focuses on translating the sounds of jazz into color and form.
Wosene's wide-ranging palette is recognized by art critics and historians as a form of genius in the realm of color. He brings the distorted, elongated, and disassembled Amharic characters to life in compositions that engage the rhythms and improvisations of jazz. For the evening, Wosene has chosen a selection of musical classics that inspire his works.
