Her use of vivid colors and patterns celebrate people's identities, beliefs, and ways of life around the world. Her captivating paintings often have a mythological or dream-like quality and are filled with both universal and specific cultural symbols.

Spirits In Stone invites you to come view a fascinating exhibit of over 30 panels showing various images of Africa's countries and peoples through the eyes of Betty La Duke.

"For me, the Amharic script, like jazz musical notation, provides a repertoire of dense, yet supple, elements that I abstract in my paintings.The script-images become shapes that I manipulate, modify, and improvise with color and texture.
