Artist Reception - Acclaimed painter Wosene Kosrof
Join us at this special evening to view Wosene's new works as he returns from Ethiopia and express through color memories of his country, culture and people. Hailed by Smithsonian curators as one of the most important international contemporary artists, Wosene's art creates bridges between traditional African arts and contemporary expression, while the rhythms of jazz inspire the moods, pacing and textures in his work. His art evokes memories of good food, wine, friendship, and the rituals of life. Using Ethiopia's Amharic script as the core element in his work, Wosene forms a new language with abstracted - and everchanging - symbols, shadows, and colors.
