Pearl Rendezvous Sonoma Gallery
For those of you not yet acquainted with the Pearl Rendezvous,
we are an intimate group of people who are passionate about pearls.
We gather every few months to learn everything you would ever want to
know about pearls,
and we welcome you to join us.
Guest Speaker, Jamie Pavlow of
the European House of Gellner
The Gellner Company stands for trend-setting cultured pearl design, and
Jamie Pavlow will be joining
us to share the fascinating history of pearls. From the Greeks who used
pearls to enhance romance and
passionate love to the Roman Empire where "la perla" was considered to
be a symbol of luxury and social rank
and used widely in fashion. And, today Gellner proves that high-quality
cultured pearl jewelry can be both
sophisticated and young-at-heart.
Join us and become captivated by a whole new world of pearls.
Champagne and Chocolates will be served.

Words of the Journey
Wosene, Great Painter of the 21st
Century
Internationally acclaimed
Ethiopian painter, Wosene, hailed by Smithsonian
Art Curators as one of the best artists of the
21st century and purchased for the permanent
museum collection. The exhibit explores ancient
symbols meshed with modern and tells the story
of human history.
“Having
lived in the United States for more
than twenty five years, Wosene’s
relationship to Ethiopia is shaped
as much by the continuing presence
of his memories as it is by his physical
absence from the country itself. The
artist’s hybrid identity is
revealed in highly textured and visually
dense canvases that evoke a world
in which animate dialogue around a
neighborhood fire in Addis Ababa coexists
with the sounds of jazz streaming
from a Berkeley coffeehouse. The Ethiopia
that finds expression in Wosene’s
art is at once culturally specific
in its visual vocabulary, highly personal
in its interpretation and international
in its outlook, reflecting the complex
realities of contemporary artistic
practice in a global society.”
… from Christa J. Clarke, PhD, curator: My Ethiopia: Recent Paintings by
Wosene Worke Kosrof, exhibition catalogue for the Neuberger Museum of Art, NY
and the Newark Museum, NJ, 2003-2004.
