At Spirits in Stone Gallery in Sausalito
Jamaican-born artist Gene Pearson, internationally known for his signature Nubian masks and head pieces, will make a unique appearance on April 2 & 3 at the Spirits In Stone Gallery located in Sausalito at 585 Bridgeway. You are invited to join us and meet the artist. His exquisite bronze and ceramic sculptures will be on exhibit.
 | | Gene Pearson at Work in Jamaica | Pearson's bronze and ceramic sculptures have been described as powerful and tender at the same time with both sharp and sensual lines. His artwork evokes a hypnotic sense of spirituality, power and sensuality.
Mr. Pearson's creative career, spanning four decades, represents the highest ideals of Jamaican art. He has exhibited widely in Jamaica, and overseas, including The Victoria and Albert Museum in London and UC Berkeley. His work is frequently presented as gifts by Jamaican Prime Ministers to visiting dignitaries, including Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela. His work is present in films, in publications, and in leading corporate and private collections internationally. The private collections include such celebrities as, musician Stevie Wonder, actress Diahann Carrol, governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, author Alice Walker, and others. Among his other honors, his work appears on the Jamaican $1.40 stamp released in 1993 depicting "Jamaica Ceramics."
Spirits In Stone has a history of working with African art that embodies a spiritual nature, and feels a rich affinity for Mr. Pearson's extraordinary work. "We are honored to be chosen by Mr. Pearson to represent his work," expressed Anthony Ponter, Spirits In Stone Curator. Spirits In Stone is also noted for its unparalleled collection of African Shona sculpture, baskets, masks, and fine jewelry.
The artist spends his time between his home in Jamaica, the Potter's Studio in Berkeley, and visiting exhibitions in Dallas, New York, London, Miami, and California.
