Artist Appearance: An Evening with Wosene
Spirits In Stone Gallery at the Claremont Resort & Spa
Spirits In Stone is honored to host a Giclée Release Party of works by
internationally acclaimed painter Wosene
on June 18 at the gallery located in the Claremont Resort & Spa.
When working with fine arts printers to create the giclée (a giclée
is the finest reproduction of an original piece of art)
of his most recent painting - Monterey Bay II - Wosene became fascinated
with the union of art and technology.
 | | Monterey Bay II, 2005 | "Through the computer, I have access to so many more colors than I
could possibly mix on my palette in the studio."
The Ethiopian-born Wosene will be showing these limited edition prints.
Each print is unique, each slightly
different - a work of art in itself. Also on display will be numerous
original works.
Wosene's remarkable blending of color with the graceful lines and
sensuous forms of Amharic calligraphy has been
described as a kind of åvisual poetry." His paintings have earned
permanent exhibit status at venues including the Smithsonian,
where his works are now curated and owned as part of the museum's
permanent collection. Among his other honors are a
commission from the United Nations to create a painting that was made
into a stamp for the theme "Africa In Crisis."
Wosene has a long association with Spirits In Stone Galleries, which
carry the world's most extensive selection of
his works. Spirits In Stone is also noted for its unparalleled
collection of African Shona sculpture, baskets, masks,
and fine jewelry.
Wosene, who professionally uses only his first name, is a Berkeley
resident who maintains a studio in Oakland.
This appearance requires no admission fee - just come and treat yourself
to an illuminating evening with a remarkable
man and world-class artist. To learn more about Wosene visit: www.spiritsinstone.com/wosene or call 800-255-5540, ext 19.
