Smithsonian acclaimed Wosene Kosrof appears at
Spirits In Stone Gallery in Healdsburg

Artist Wosene Kosrof
Internationally renowned painter Wosene Kosrof will make a rare appearance on Saturday, September 17 at the Spirits In Stone Gallery located in Healdsburg just North of the Square. Spirits In Stone is honored and delighted to present Wosene's newest series titled "Words of the Journey." The influence of Wosene's recent visit home to Ethiopia is thoughtfully reflected in this new series. His work is more extraordinary than ever.

Wosene's remarkable blending of color with the graceful lines and sensuous forms of Amharic calligraphy has been described as a kind of "visual poetry." "I have been working with Amharic calligraphy for more than twenty-five years and am the first contemporary Ethiopian artist to explore and use the aesthetic dimension of the language in abstract painting," shares Wosene.

Wosene has been exhibiting since 1970 in fine galleries and museums in Africa, Great Britain, Europe, the Caribbean, Japan, and the United States, including the Smithsonian, the Orlando Museum of Art, Sacramento's Crocker Museum, and the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. His paintings have earned permanent exhibit status at venues including the Smithsonian, where his works are now curated and owned as part of the museum's permanent collection. His works are included in the Rockefeller Collection, the United Nations permanent collection, as well as many international private collections.

Wosene has enjoyed a long association with Spirits In Stone Galleries, which carry the world's most extensive selection of his intriguing, complex and engaging works. Spirits In Stone is also noted for its unparalleled collection of African Shona sculpture, baskets, masks, and fine jewelry from around the world.

Wosene- known only by his first name, is now a Berkeley resident and paints in a modest studio in Oakland. There is no admission fee, nor are reservations necessary for this appearance. We invite you to just stroll in and treat yourself to a inspiring and illuminating evening with a remarkable man and world-class artist. To learn more about Wosene visit: spiritsinstone.com/wosene
